Summer Essentials

Summer is here and it is one of my favorite times of year!  On one hand, things seem to slow down to a more leisurely pace, but on the other, it can be very busy with fun-filled events such as family gatherings or barbeques, vacations or staycations, home projects and much more! It’s all good & exciting!  Below are some things I find essential in my life for this time of year and I hope you find them useful and handy!

BUG OFF!
With warm breezes often come those pesky little visitors that are not welcome because they bite and those bites hurt!  But no worries!  You won’t go wrong with this easy to make, all natural, good-smelling bug repellent! I think the best thing of all is you are not putting toxic chemicals on you or your family!

Recipe:

  • 4 oz. glass spray bottle
  • Lemongrass essential oil – 12 drops
  • Lavender essential oil – 12 drops
  • 1 oz. of Fractionated Coconut Oil (or carrier oil of choice)
  • Fill the rest with water

If you don’t want to go to the trouble, then doTERRA has a wonderful blend or spray called Terrashield. It’s amazing! 

BYE-BYE ITCHY BITES

If you do happen to get bit before putting on your wonderful bug repellent, have no fear!  That annoying itch won’t last long with this awesome blend.  Not only with the itch go away, the red bump will diminish within minutes too!

Recipe:

  • 10 ml roll-on bottle 
  • Lavender essential oil – 10 drops
  • Lemon essential oil – 10 drops
  • Peppermint essential oil – 10 drops
  • Top it off with Fractionated Coconut Oil (or carrier oil of choice)

Shake and enjoy!


SAY NO TO RAZOR BUMPS

It’s time to put on your new bathing suit and relax by the pool or if you’re so lucky by the peaceful bliss of the ocean, but you’re worried about getting those irritating red bumps which can be embarrassing.  Well, you no longer have to walk around with a towel around your lower half.  Be free by applying this blend right after shaving.

Recipe:

  • 10 ml roll-on bottle
  • Lavender essential oil – 10 drops
  • Melaleuca (tea tree) essential oil – 10 drops
  • Top it off with Fractionated Coconut Oil (or carrier oil of choice)


TOO MUCH SUN RELIEF SPRAY

You shouldn’t, but it happens to the best of us…..you get too much sun.  You put on sunscreen but fun happens, you forget about it and you forget to reapply.  You get home and suddenly, you seem to get redder and redder and hotter and hotter.  Yes, aloe is great so if you have plant, run outside, cut off a piece, snap it open and rub that all over, but if you’re not so lucky, keep this on hand in a glass spray bottle in the fridge.  Spray where it hurts and you will instantly feel the relief and be able to sleep at night without feeling you like you are sleeping on top of a bed of nails.

Recipe:

  • 6 oz. glass spray bottle
  • Lavender essential oil – 8 drops
  • Lemon essential oil – 8 drops
  • Melaleuca (tea tree) essential oil – 8 drops
  • 1 tablespoon of Fractionated Coconut oil (or carrier oil of your choice)
  • Top it off with water
  • Keep in the refrigerator


FEET-TASTIC

One part of our anatomy that seems to get neglected the most, but has the hardest job is our feet! And if you live in a climate where you wear a lot of open-toed shoes they get battered even more, often causing hard, callused and cracked heels.  If you don’t have the time to get a pedicure regularly you can pamper your feet each night with this ever-so-soothing blend resulting in not only a wonderful night’s sleep but feet you won’t fret to flaunt!

Recipe:

  • 1 teaspoon of beeswax
  • 2 tablespoons of cocoa butter
  • 4 tablespoons of shea butter
  • 1 tablespoon of Virgin Coconut Oil
  • 2 tablespoons of Fractionated Coconut Oil (or carrier oil of your choice)
  • Peppermint essential oil – 5 drops
  • Melaleuca (tea tree) essential oil – 5 drops

Directions:

  • In a small glass container, combine all ingredients except essential oils
  • Place in a saucepan with 1 ½ inches of boiling water
  • Stir ingredients until combined (approx.. 7 minutes)
  • Once melted, remove from heat and let rest for 3 minutes
  • Add essential oils and stir
  • Let mixture come to a solid state. To quicken this, place in the refrigerator
  • Once solid, use an electric mixer to whip it up into a lotion
  • Gradually increase whipping speed for 3 to 4 minutes or until light and fluffy
  • Place in desired container and enjoy using to rub on heels to help soften and soothe them!

Tip: for best results, add a generous amount to feet with socks before bed.


ORANGE YOU GLAD YOU HAVE A BLENDER & OILS?

Let’s face it, summer is HOT and depending where you live, more so for some than others.  Like the temperature, cravings for something cool and refreshing are on the rise.  This delicious smoothie is of my favorites and it bursts with flavor!  So, get out that blender and enjoy!  It tastes so good you will want to drink it fast, but be careful, you don’t want to get a frozen brain…if you do though, put your tongue or thumb on the roof of your mouth and that pain will quickly subside.

Recipe:

  • 3 tablespoons of Vanilla yogurt (or plain)
  • Fresh strawberries
  • 1 banana
  • Coconut water
  • Sprinkle on some ground flax seed (optional)
  • 1 drop of Wild Orange essential oil (or favorite citrus oil)
